Lakeland Linder International Airport has been working on flight path changes to address residents’ noise complaints. After nearly two years, it’s ready to present potential solutions to the public.
Lakeland Linder will host a public meeting Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., to discuss its new flight arrival and departure procedures at the airport terminal, 3900 Don Emerson Drive.
The city hired Texas-based Hughes Aerospace Corp. to help develop a “parkway approach” to Lakeland Linder International Airport in December 2021 in an effort to reduce jet noise. Lakeland commissioners reported an increase in residential noise complaints shortly after Amazon began cargo jet operations. On Thursday, residents will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss two new aircraft departure procedures for Runway 10 and two new aircraft arrival procedures for Runway 28. These procedures are currently under consideration for approval by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The meeting will be held in a town hall or forum style, allowing attendees to arrive at any time to browse approximately 12 poster boards that will be on display, according to LLIA staff member Allison Flowers. Airport staff will be on hand to explain the routes and answer any questions.
Attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed changes to the Federal Aviation via comment cards at Thursday’s meeting. Those unable to attend can submit comments by emailing [email protected].
The FAA’s deadline to receive public comments is midnight on Thursday, Flowers said.
