A train transporting several rail cars near the Mosaic phosphate mine derailed Tuesday morning.
It happened just before 2 a.m. off Mt. Pisgah Road just south of Fort Meade, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
There were no injuries and no hazmat situation after at least 10 rail cars went off the tracks, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said. It will likely take some time to clean up the scene, however.
The cars were carrying phosphate rock from a nearby mine, Mosaic spokesperson Jackie Barron said. The unprocessed rock comes from the ground, and there was no environmental impact, she added.
There are no major traffic issues as the derailment happened in a relatively quieter area.
