The actions of Hamas − killing people and holding children, the elderly, and sick as hostages − represent the worst type of behavior in a civilized society.
Additionally, Israel’s response, while understandable, is clearly an overreaction and needs to be stopped as soon as possible. The two sides have displayed incredible cruelty toward each other.
Now, for the sake of humanity and good sense, they need to finally cast aside their weapons and work out how they will live together in the future. Clearly, the United States is willing to broker a peace settlement agreeable to all.
