Work to install drainage upgrades that closed Airside Center Drive just north of West Pipkin Road has been extended one week to complete a new City of Lakeland water main connection delayed by complications with other underground utilities.
Drainage and water main installations are both part of Polk County’s West Pipkin Road widening project. Airside Center Drive will remain closed through the first week of the new year, reopening on January 8, 2024.
Until then, traffic continues to be detoured along Old Medulla Road to bypass the work zone. Southbound Airside Center Drive traffic can still make westbound right-turns onto Aviation Drive.
Motorists can expect moderate travel delays, especially during weekday peak-hour drivetimes. Commuters are advised to drive carefully and to add extra time to trips through this area.
