Vehicle 1, a Toyota Yaris, was traveling northbound on the I-375 entrance ramp while Vehicle 2, a Publix tractor-trailer, was traveling northbound on I-275.
Traveling too fast on the wet roadway while merging into I-275, Driver 1 lost control of Vehicle 1 which rotated and traveled across the roadway gore until colliding with the trailer of Vehicle 2.
Driver 1, an 18-year-old man, and his passenger, a 28-year-old man, both of St. Petersburg, suffered serious injuries during the event. Driver 2, a 34-year-old Lakeland man, was not injured.
