The retailer has also announced the expansion of one of its in-store sections

Dollar General revealed that customers can use the benefits to buy food, produce, over-the-counter medicines, and other wellness products.
Dollar General’s chief medical officer Dr. Albert Wu suggested the store had a duty to provide these items to customers, especially in certain areas, according to a press release.
“With approximately 75% of Americans within five miles of a Dollar General, we recognize the unique access we provide to all communities, especially rural ones, that may not have affordable access to health and wellness essentials,” Wu said.
“We believe our partnership to expand access to supplemental and value-added benefits demonstrates our focus to keep our customers at the center of all we do and further establish Dollar General as a health destination.”
Shoppers at over 20,000 Dollar General Stores will have access to the new payment method.
This change has coincided with the company’s expansion of its health and wellness section.
DG Wellbeing has grown its product selection and has taken up around 30% more selling space in stores.
This line is available at more than 7,000 stores and even in certain rural areas where access to over-the-counter medication and supplements may be less common.
The store’s steps towards wellness have also made an impact on its produce and food section.
Dollar General recently also announced that it offered fresh produce in over 5,000 locations.
These stores also include other healthy food options like proteins, grains, and frozen fruits and vegetables.
Dollar General opened up its 20,000th store in Alice, Texas last week.
The retailer and its senior leaders held a grand opening celebration to mark the milestone.
Dollar General’s executive vice president of store operations and development, Steve Deckard shared his thoughts on the historic day.
“Today marks an incredible milestone in Dollar General’s history,” Deckard said.
“From our first general store to today’s 20,000th store opening, our mission to serve others and help customers stretch their budget remains strong.”
