People in Florida will soon be able to buy wine in jugs of more than a gallon.
“Free the grapes,” Rep. Chip LaMarca (R-100th Dist.) wrote in a statement announcing Gov. Ron DeSantis signed off on the recently passed bill. LaMarca explained he worked for five years on the legislation, calling it a matter of economic freedom and criminal justice reform.
When the new law goes into effect, the cap on wine bottle size jumps nearly four-fold, from one gallon to 15 liters (3.96 gallons), the Governor’s Office stated. Its release offered a list of some of the commonly used sizes Florida customers could soon see dotting their shelves, including:
- Methuselah (6 liters/1.59 gallons)
- Salmanazar (9 liters/2.38 gallons)
- Balthazar (12 liters/3.17 gallons)
- Nebuchadnezzar (15 liters/3.96 gallons)
“In Florida, we are always looking for ways to reduce regulation and improve our residents’ quality of life,” Governor Ron DeSantis said. “If Floridians can purchase a large bottle of wine online from another state, they should be able to buy one from their local wine or grocery store.”
