Two people were killed Wednesday morning in a fiery crash involving a semi-truck and box truck, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The double fatal wreck happened on Highway 37 near 4 Corners Mine Road.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says the box truck failed to see a line of vehicles that had stopped on the highway and swerved into the northbound lane to avoid rear-ending the cars, hitting a semi-truck head-on.
Deputies said both drivers were killed. There were no passengers.
The roadway is shut down in both directions as deputies wrap up the investigation.
“We don’t know what was in the box truck, but there was a fire and entrapment,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. “It was a horribly terrible crash.”
