Unfortunately, Florida has not been immune to the job cuts occurring in 2024. And now another company – Fairfield Gourmet Food Corporation – is following suit with over 100 employees being laid off.
About Fairfield Gourmet Food Corporation: This company owns David’s Cookie’s, which started as a brick-and-mortar establishment – opening a store in the 1970s in Manhattan, New York. Eventually, it would expand to have 200 stores, until it went to a mail-order format in 1987.
In the 1990s, David’s expanded its menu to include cheesecakes, brownies, and crumb cakes.
Although David’s and Fairfield Gourmet are New Jersey companies, Fairfield Gourmet Food Corporation has a food manufacturing facility in central Florida. Employees who work at the company give it 4 out of 5 stars on Indeed. A common refrain is that it is a fun place to work.
The Florida Shut Down And Lay Offs: According to a warn letter pre-dated May 31, 2024, the company’s facility in Longwood, Florida is planning to shut down, likely beginning in July of 2024. Therefore, all 137 employees at the facility will eventually be laid off.
There are no bumping rights, but the company also has facilities in New Jersey and Ohio, although the warn letter made no mention of employee transfers.
David’s Cookies reportedly has an annual revenue of around $46.9 million and employs approximately 338.
