Three men from Houston were arrested on Saturday in connection with a vehicle burglary at a Publix in Polk County after telling deputies that they traveled to Florida “to go to the beach,” according to officials.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Keshawn Jones, 24, Zevorage Scott, 26, and Troy Kyle, 24, were in a vehicle believed to have been involved in a burglary in the parking lot of Publix on US-98 North in the Lakeland area.
The suspect vehicle had a covered license plate, which one of them admitted was to avoid paying tolls, deputies said.
During interviews, all three men told detectives they didn’t know anything about the burglary, and that they drove to Florida “to go to the beach,” deputies said.
“That’s right — they drove from Houston…a coastal city…through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama…all of which have coastlines, and drove to the middle of Florida to Polk County…where there is zero ocean front property,” the Polk County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
All three men were arrested and charged with burglary of conveyance, possession of burglary tools, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, deputies said, noting that additional charges were possible.
