An anti-Trump PAC has reportedly placed a “Convicted Felon” billboard along I-75 in southwest Florida following the recent conviction in May of former President Donald Trump for falsifying business records.
Mad Dog PAC, founded in 2017 by Claude Taylor, lists its mission as “fight fascism, stop Trump.” Similar billboards by the PAC have already gone up in Wisconsin, Nevada and Michigan.
“The 12th Convicted Felon is up in Wisconsin. Our 13th is up in Las Vegas ahead of today’s Trump rally. Number 14 goes up on 94 in Michigan tomorrow. 15 goes up also tomorrow on I-75 in southwest Florida,” Taylor said.
Taylor previously worked as a low lever staffer for former President Bill Clinton. The PAC also highlights other billboards attacking the former president, including “Trump Killed Border Security”, “It’s A Cult”, and “LOSER” depicting his face.
The PAC noted its funding comes from everyday citizens who are “motivated by a desire to make a difference.”
Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power ridiculed the PAC’s attempt to dissuade voters in the Sunshine State. According to polling, Trump has maintained a consistent lead over President Joe Biden.
“Another billboard? Are they campaigning in the 1980s? Joe Biden cannot win on his record of leaving the border open, soaring inflation, and failed foreign policy so he is going to do everything he can to try and distract voters,” Power told Florida’s Voice. “It won’t work, and the American people will be heard loud and clear on November 5th.”
The strategy was also mocked on social media, with one user equating the billboard as an endorsement for the GOP nominee.
Another posted, “I’m confused. Are these supposed to help hurt Trump or help him? Because I’m pretty sure its helping him.”
