The City of Lakeland Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department has closed Simpson Park pool until further notice. The vinyl liner has separated from the pool wall and is now a safety hazard. The liner separation has caused a large bubble to form that has moved close to the water intake valves creating a void that a person could get caught in. Bob Donahay, Director of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts said, “Safety is our top priority, and we don’t want an issue where a pool guest gets their foot or hand caught in the separated liner. The bubble created by the separation has gotten larger as it has moved near the water intake valves.”
The staff has contacted the groups that utilize Simpson Park pool for group swimming and notified them that the pool is closed for repairs. The staff has also reached out to parents who have children participating in swim lessons to coordinate options. Gandy Pool located at the Kelly Recreation Complex (404 Imperial Boulevard) is open and guests are encouraged to use that facility during the closure.
