Laughter is the best medicine and Kelly Terwilliger wants to use laughter to help raise funds for an Alzheimer’s cure and celebrate the life and infectious laugh of her late Aunt Darlene Anderson, who passed from Corticobasal Syndrome, a rare form of Alzheimer’s.
Terwilliger of Babson Park is holding Laugh All Day on Friday, June 21 at Brookdale Highlands ALF in Lakeland, as part of The Longest Day, which raises funds and awareness for the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Laugh All Day headliner is a pharmacist turned comedian Jaya Koovackai, stage name Jaya K, who will make her debut at the event, which has three showtimes. Jaya K, a Lakeland resident, will be joined by three other local comedians, Jon Fon, Mike Williams, and Justin Fennell for the 6:30 p.m. show.
Terwilliger says her Aunt Darlene, who was her Mom’s twin sister, was one of the most influential women in her life and knew she had to do something to honor her memory, her laugh and support the efforts of finding a cure. We do have a video of her laugh.
Florida has the second-highest number of residents living with Alzheimer’s in the nation, with more than 580,000 living with the disease. Throughout the country, more than 7 million Americans live with Alzheimer’s and more than 11 million caregivers provide unpaid care to those living with Alzheimer’s and other related dementias.
Laugh All Day offers three showtimes at Brookdale Highlands ALF, 4250 Lakeland Highlands Road, in Lakeland.
10 a.m., breakfast bar will be served, $10
2 p.m., lunch featuring the longest hot dog bar will be served, $15
6:30 p.m., dinner featuring the longest taco bar will be served, $20
