Lakeland Senior Faces Life Imprisonment for Fentanyl Distribution Leading to Death

Kenneth Bernard Graham, 67, of Lakeland, has been charged with distributing fentanyl resulting in death. This arrest follows an indictment announced by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg on June 30, 2024.

Charges and Potential Sentences

According to the indictment, on September 10, 2022, Graham distributed a substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl to an individual who subsequently died from its ingestion. Only two days later, Graham was discovered in possession of fentanyl intended for distribution.

If convicted, Graham could face a minimum mandatory penalty of 20 years in federal prison, with the possibility of life imprisonment. Federal authorities emphasize that an indictment is simply a formal accusation and that every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Involvement

The Lakeland Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted their investigation into this case under the auspices of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF). This task force aims to identify, disrupt, and dismantle high-level criminal organizations operating within the United States.

The OCDETF employs a prosecutor-led,
intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach engaging local and federal law enforcement officers working collectively to combat narcotics trafficking. More about this initiative can be found here.
