According to a recent poll, Florida’s pro-abortion ballot initiative has enough public support to pass this November.
Requiring 60% to pass, the amendment – which creates the right to an abortion in Florida, trounces parental consent laws and overturns existing restrictions – has 69% support, per a new poll by the University of North Florida Public Opinion Research Lab.
Conducted July 23-27 among 774 likely voters, with just 23% saying they would not support it, and 8% undecided. That’s up from a fall poll from UNF that found the amendment at 62% support.
The amendment to protect all recreational marijuana usage in Florida was also found to be at 64% support, 31% opposition and 5% undecided or refusing.
The same poll gave former President Donald Trump a commanding lead over Vice President Kamala Harris.
Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Republican Party of Florida have officially and vocally opposed both of those amendments, warning that the former will make Florida an abortion tourism capital in the U.S. and bring the smell of marijuana into everybody’s lives whether they like it or not.
DeSantis in April predicted both of the amendments will fail.
A court battle is also ensuing between the state and Floridians Protecting Freedom over a financial impact statement that seeks to educate voters on how taxpayer dollars could be impacted if abortions receive such stringent protections by the state constitution.
