The Polk County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal crash in Lakeland.
According to the PCSO spokesman, the crash happened around 3:44 a.m. at Combee Road and Main Street between a freight truck and pedestrian.
A man died overnight after he was hit by a box truck as he walked along Combee Road near Main Street in Lakeland.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened about 3:45 a.m. The man, whose last known address was sin Orlando, was walking north on Combee Road, wearing a black shirt and black pants. The box truck was also traveling north and preparing to make a left turn onto Main Street when it hit the man.
The man was taken to a local hospital with traumatic head injuries, but died shortly after arrival.
The victim was walking in the northbound lane of Combee Road when he was hit by the truck. The truck was also driving north and was about to make a right turn, according to PCSO.
The driver of the truck was not injured and cooperated with deputies during the investigation.
Both directions on Combee Road were shut down, but they have since reopened.
