A Lakeland police officer shot at a suspect who was ramming police vehicles Monday afternoon at a shopping center near US 98.
Officers tried to approach a vehicle in the parking lot of Village Plaza when the driver began ramming into police vehicles, officials said.
A Lakeland officer fired at the suspect, who was not hit.
The suspect drove away across US 98 and crashed near Douglas M. Cook Park, where they were taken into custody, police said.
Wedgewood Estates Boulevard from Carpenters Way to US 98 North has been closed, police said. Officers are diverting traffic in the area.
The 10th Judicial Circuit’s Office of the State Attorney will be investigating, which is standard protocol for an officer-involved shooting.
