The City of Lakeland Wastewater Collection Division will close a portion of North Crystal Lake Drive between Smithfield Avenue and Lowery Avenue to rehab a 70-year-old sewer main.
Contractors working for the City of Lakeland will begin the project on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 8 a.m. It is estimated that the work along the south side of North Crystal Lake Drive will take full day to complete. This work will utilize the cured in place pipe (CIPP) lining process.
This trenchless method of sewer construction requires little or no digging and significantly reduces the time to complete a project when compared to traditional methods. CIPP is suitable for repairing both short and long runs of pipes that do not need to be upsized. The process involves inserting a flexible liner inside the existing pipe, inflating the liner, and exposing it to heat or ultraviolet light to dry and harden the liner inside the pipe. The liner essentially forms a smooth surface inside the existing pipe, restoring it to near-new condition.
During this rehabilitation work, vehicular traffic through the work area will be reduced to one way. Flaggers will be in place to help direct travel through the work zone. A map is attached showing the location of the project.
