Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd discussed the arrest of Family Elder Law Attorney Jason Penrod on Thursday afternoon.
Penrod was arrested Wednesday evening on a charge of grand theft over $100,000 in Marion County, where Judd said he was “hiding out.”
He was accused of gambling away $1.75 million stolen from a Pennsylvania family’s trust fund.
Penrod transferred the money from the plaintiffs’ account, “basically the total amount of the trust funds I was holding,” he said, beginning in October 2023. He wired the funds to the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa “until the trust funds were exhausted.”
He cited a “raging” gambling addiction and mental health issues.
Judd said he did not know how many more of Penrod’s clients have been affected by his actions.
