A woman gave birth to a baby girl in the parking lot of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office’s Southwest District Office in Lakeland Saturday morning.
The couple, Micah and Diam, were heading to the hospital so Diam could give birth to their child around 7:15 a.m. when they realized their daughter wasn’t going to wait until they got there, the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post.
They happened to be near the sheriff’s office location and Micah pulled into the parking lot.
Sgt. Timothy Lynch, who was at the substation, saw their vehicle parked outside.
“As he approached it, Diam turned to him holding a brand new, itty-bitty baby girl,” PCSO said.
Lynch radioed for Polk County Fire Rescue to respond.
Deputies at the substation provided several donated handmade quilts for both the mother and her newborn daughter.
PCFR brought Diam and the baby to the hospital, and deputies from the Southwest District later visited them, showering them with gifts, including newborn essentials, a $100 gift card, and a talking Sheriff Grady Judd doll.
“We think the baby should have been named Southwest, in honor of the Southwest District. After all, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian named their kid North West. But alas, the proud parents already had a name picked out,” the sheriff’s office said.
