Operation Blue Roof offers a free service for homeowners and permanently occupied rental properties by providing fiber-reinforced, industrial sheeting to protect storm-damaged roofs until permanent repairs can be made.
To qualify for Operation Blue Roof, homeowners or renters must:
- The home must be the primary residence of the person or household requesting the roof covering.
- The residence has no more than 50% of the roof framing damaged.
- The resident certifies they are the owner of the residence requested to be covered, or a renter with legal permission to continue occupying the residence until permanent repairs are made.
- Resident must certify they plan to shelter in the residence.
- The roof must be standard roof shingles or a similar material that will allow contractors to nail the tarp in place. Contractors will consider repairs to metal roofs and mobile homes on a case-by-case basis. Contractors cannot cover roofs made of slate, asbestos, clay tile, or other materials, which would be exceptionally difficult to repair or possibly damaged by tarp installation.
