On Thursday, October 24, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM, PCSO deputies responded to a battery in progress in Davenport. The suspect, Kelsey Boyce, age 23, got into a verbal argument with the victim, then struck the victim and threatened him with a knife. Our deputies saw Kelsey flee the scene, armed with the knife, into a wooded area near the scene.
The helicopter, Davenport police, Haines City police, and K9 Reno and his partner, D/S Giles, came to assist the deputies who were first on the scene. Once they spotted Kelsey in the woods, D/S Giles gave him several chances to surrender and come out – he refused. In went the K9 team, and while Reno was in the process of apprehending the dangerous fleeing felon, he was struck multiple times about the head. But you know our dogs never give up, and ultimately Reno & Giles were able to take the bad guy into custody.
K9 Reno was superficially stabbed 4 times in the head, twice on his ear, and once each on his nose and under his eye. He was taken to the veterinary hospital. He was cleared by doctors, and is doing fine! He is still as cute as ever, as you can see in these photos, and we are grateful for his bravery and hard work.
Kelsey has been charged with aggravated assault and battery for the altercation with his human victim. He was additionally charged with resisting arrest and battery on a police K9 for stabbing K9 Reno.
