We just adopted 2 Siberia Huskies today. A lot of animals were adopted out today. Id love to hope all of them were but Im sure that isnt the case.

I used to think Grady Judd was an alright dude, not so much anymore, why at Christmas time would u do a mass killing of man’s best friend the dog and woman’s best friend the cat, it’s wrong on so many levels, they didn’t asked to born, to not be loved, they all need a chance, if I didn’t already have 7 dogs and 40 cats I would take 20, but I don’t have the room, so please step and save the babies.

Unfortunately I was a inmate and I worked at the landfill where animal control is located for almost 4 months. I’m a animal lover and I was assigned the task of caring for all of the cats and kittens. It’s very very VERY heartbreaking to see a cat one day and the next day it’s put to sleep for no reason other than because it has no home. The word “IF” has a big meaning. But if I had the money I would adopt them all. I’ve had Hemingway cat’s and stray cats and I loved them all. There’s nothing like having your pet put down because of health issues. But to put them down because they aren’t fortunate enough to have a home is something totally different. It’s painful to think that this is going to happen. I can only hope and pray that it doesn’t happen to any of the animals. I wish for every animal out there at animal control will be adopted before this deadline is here. A pet can restore your soul, help you love more deeply and help your depression and anxiety. A pet can even help your blood pressure! DONT LET THEM DIE WITHOUT GIVING THEM A CHANCE!
It’s unfortunate that nobody feels the same for our homeless population. A lot of homeless being veterans that fought for our freedom yet we would help dogs and cats before helping another human being!
I hope that all of the folks outraged by this have spayed or neutered their pets. That’s where we need to focus our attention. There are too many irresponsible pet owners letting their pets reproduce over and over again, creating an overabundance of animals.
You stated the absolute truth! Irresponsible pet owners are the cause for all the unwanted cats and dogs. Back yard breeders add to the problem.
We need to stop these KILL shelters! I have always adopted my pets. I even wrote,illustrated and published on Amazon 3 Children’s Books, A Wiggles and Wags Tale series on rescuing and adoption of pets. We’re getting rid of the puppy mills thank God.
You should be reaching out to other shelters and fosters rather than killing these poor innocents. I live in an apartment and am not able to have any more animals but would if I could. Do some marketing to save them instead of taking the easy way out. I’m sure most would agree with me.
This paper seems to always have something negative to say regarding Our Sheriff Grady Judd and the Polk County Animal Shelter. If you wanted to you could do a benefit for the shelter and help.with financial assistance, items that could be used for the animals like foods, litter, towels, blankets, bleach, etc.
The community that I live in do something for them every 3 or 4 months and generously give to the shelter. Ask your readers to help and consider doing a fundraiser. Spread kindness.
Is there an actual story written here because I can’t pull anything up? I’m wondering where this came from besides the Lakeland Gazette. I know animals are euthanized every month but this seems very drastic. I’ll take a look on some of the rescue websites and see if there’s anything.

I have supported Grady Judd for as long as he has been Sherriff and never doubted his decisions. However, killing all the dogs & cats in the Polk County Animal Control is cruel and inhuman. Those animals did not ask to be born and they sure as hell don’t want to be murdered. If they are sick or hurt real bad then yes put them down. Not healthy animals that could eventually wind up in a forever home. If I didn’t already have 2 dogs and ongoing babysitting responsibilities for my 2 sons dogs we would adopt one. Please Grady don’t do it you can’t be that unfeeling.
Absolutely agree! I wonder, does he have kids or grandchildren, how inhumane. I’ve watched his little morning coffee routine and its getting old also Im not on the same about political page he is. But I’ve respected somethings. But ready this I’m freaking happy living in Citrus county.

This is overwhelming and heartbreaking. Someone in power needs to stop him! This decision is very cavalier of him to be so quick to kill! These pups and kitties have already been through hell, loss and abuse and now they will be discarded and destroyed! Please, protest and stop him. Both cats and dogs are advertised each week in the Ledger for adoption in attempts to find homes for these animals that were over bred, usually by unspayed or unneutered animals. What do you expect when supply outproduces the lower demand for animals? We hear that all the shelters are overpopulated with no room for new additions. Ones who make room for new temporary residents systematically have no alternatives to re-host these that have been offered for weeks and no one wants to take on responsibility for those ill-responsible pet owners. I don’t think our county government should be in the business of raising animals in a fur baby home scenario.
I would have never voted for Grady Judd if I knew he would have done this to the poor Animals. I have lived here and owned a home in Polk.County for 27 years and always supported him. I will never vote or support him again. He needs to resign if this is what he is going to do to the poor little fur babies. They should try and contact The Asher House in Oregon . Lee Asher will do his best to rescue as many animals as possible.
Grady Judd has fundraisers and Gala’s to buy more K-9’s for Polk County but cares less about animals in the shelter. His answer is just kill them! How about allocating the thousands of dollars donated from the community to purchases K-9’s and lets help these innocent animal’s in the shelter especially at Christmas Do Better GRADY JUDD !
Judd makes me sick. I did not vote for him this time for this reason. Neither did I vote for any holdover commissioners. I despise them all. Ally Cat Allies is the only place I know of who will fight for animals. They file lawsuits and should be called by all cat & dog lovers. Donate to them. I find it interesting that he has a HUGE online presence. So why doesn’t he use his online presence to tell people he is doing this. And, ask for help for these animals across the country. That doesn’t give one or two people much time.
And how many of you are volunteering at animal shelters? What is your plan to care for all the animals and shelters when hardly anyone donates to support them? How many have opened your homes to foster cats and dogs until they are adopted?
