Maple Lanes Lakeland is proud to once again host the bowling portion of the Polk County Senior Games, an annual two-week event featuring competitive and recreational activities for men and women age 50 and older.
Launched in 1992, the Senior Games welcome about 2,500 participants – ranging from the serious competitor to the fun at heart – and include sports and activities such as softball, tennis, basketball, swimming, pickleball, walking, running Sudoku, and chess.
The bowling events, all at Maple Lanes Lakeland, will include:
- Tuesday, March 4, Singles, 9 a.m.
- Wednesday, March 5, Doubles, 1 p.m.
- Thursday, March 6: Team Bowling, 1 p.m.
- Friday, March 7: Mixed Doubles, 9 a.m.
“We share the Polk County Senior Games’ mission to promote an active, healthy lifestyle, and we are excited to welcome the Games back to Maple Lanes Lakeland,” said Joe LaSpina, Vice President of Maple Family Centers, which owns Maple Lanes Lakeland. “Bowling is a lifetime sport that can be enjoyed at any age – we have bowlers as young as age 2 and some over 100. Many older adults bowl in Maple Lanes Lakeland and our other bowling centers. We have dedicated senior leagues and provide very inexpensive practice sessions for senior league bowlers. We also have what we call ‘organized open play,’ with regular groups of seniors who visit weekly. Bowling is good for both physical and mental health – it keeps people moving and provides them with a great way to socialize and connect with others in the community.”
