On April 10, 2025, at 12:32 p.m., LakelandPD officers were called to a traffic crash in the 500 block of North Ingraham Avenue. The suspect in the crash fled the scene and was quickly located by officers. Michael Mawn (age 60 of Lakeland) was driving a Chrysler van when he struck the back of the victim’s sedan and left the area.
After being detained by officers, it was learned that Mawn’s driver’s license was suspended and impairment was suspected. Smelling strongly of alcohol, officers asked Mawn if he believed he was impaired. He said, “I’m sure I am.” They asked if he could safely drive and he replied, “No.” Mawn said he drank three bloody marys and smoked “weed” about an hour prior. When asked if he would participate in an evaluation by a drug recognition expert, he said he would not because he was “kind of high.”
Mawn was arrested and charged with DUI, Driving with a Suspended License, and Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage. Great job to our officers who made our streets safer today!
