“InTENtionally Proud” — that’s the theme of this year’s Polk Pride events in honor of the organization’s 10th anniversary, happening June 7-14. Honor the LGBTQ+ community by joining these events around Swan City throughout Pride Month.
Kick-Off Party
The festivities begin on Saturday, June 7 at this brunch at Union Hall (1023 S. Florida Ave.) featuring drinks and drag performances from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $15.
Pride for Youth
LGBTQ+ youth ages 11-17 can join a free, chaperoned celebration at the United Women’s Club of Lakeland (1515 Williamsburg Sq.) on Wednesday, June 11, 6:30-9 p.m.
Pride in Faith
Local faith leaders and guest speakers will come together at Beacon Hill Fellowship (220 W. Beacon Rd.) to share their perspectives + experiences. This free event takes place on Thursday, June 12 at 7 p.m.
With a week full of events, there’s something for everyone.
Friday Night Pride
Head to The Parrot (1030 E. Main St.) to kick off Pride weekend with drinks, dancing, and drag performances on Friday, June 13. Pay your $10 cover at the door to party from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at this 21+ event.
Pride in the Park
Polk Pride’s biggest event of the year takes place in Munn Park on Saturday, June 14. Drop in from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to meet dozens of vendors and enjoy plenty of entertainment. This event is family-friendly and open to all. Want to help out as a volunteer? Sign up for a shift from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pride After Dark
After Pride in the Park, sashay away to Union Hall from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. for a night of drag performances, headlined by Denali from “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Snag a general admission ticket for $29, or go for the VIP meet-and-greet for $75.
Polk Pride was started in 2015 to raise awareness and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community through annual and monthly events. Its partners include the Lakeland Youth Alliance, a nonprofit that provides support for LGBTQ+ youth, and the national Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays organization.
We love a party, but Pride is also a prime time to give back. Donations to the Youth Alliance help provide support to LGBTQ+ youth in our community. Pro tip: Donating to the Lakeland Youth Alliance will also benefit Polk Pride.
