The City of Lakeland invites residents and local bicycle enthusiasts to help shape the future of cycling by participating in a public survey as part of the League of American Bicyclists’ 2025 Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) review process. This opportunity allows cyclists of all backgrounds and skill levels to share their experiences and feedback to support Lakeland’s efforts to enhance its bike-friendly initiatives.
Lakeland offers an array of scenic and enjoyable cycling opportunities. From the Lake-to-Lake bikeway system and beautiful parks to our historic downtown and welcoming neighborhoods, bicycling remains a healthy, sustainable, and affordable mode of travel and recreation for everyone.
In 2012, Lakeland was proudly designated a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists—placing the community among a select group of Florida cities recognized for their dedication to promoting cycling as a viable transportation and recreational option. This national designation is part of the League’s Bicycle Friendly America program, which provides communities with tools, guidance, and recognition for advancing bicycle access, safety, and culture.
With the 2025 application now under review, community input is a critical part of the evaluation process. All individuals who bike in Lakeland are encouraged to complete the public survey, which is open through Sunday, October 5, 2025.

Survey responses are anonymous, and aggregated results will be shared with the City as part of our feedback package later this year. This feedback will help identify strengths and areas for improvement in Lakeland’s bicycle infrastructure, safety, and community engagement. To ensure broad community participation, we urge all residents, local cyclists, and bicycle advocates to complete and share the survey.
A Spanish-language version of the survey is available upon request. Interested community members or organizations can email the League of American Bicyclists to receive a custom link. Survey responses in Spanish will be included in the final community results without translation to preserve authenticity.
