Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR) crews, assisted by the Raptor Center of Tampa Bay, successfully rescued an owl trapped in dense palm fibers on Sunday, Aug. 24. The owl became tangled after a direct lightning strike split the tree and exposed the fibers.
PCFR members used the ladder truck and sized up the situation before carefully dislodging the owl’s talons. The members freed the owl, who flew away — unharmed.
