Healthy and treatable pets should never be dying in our shelters.
Ending a life that could be saved is not “standard procedure.” It is not “necessary.” It is a failure of policy, leadership, and will- and communities have every right to demand better.
Across the country, shelters that embrace proven, humane programs are saving 98–99% of their animals. The knowledge exists. The models exist. The only thing missing in many regions is the commitment to use them.
We cannot soften the truth:
Killing animals who could be adopted, fostered, treated, transported, or supported through community programs is avoidable harm. It is preventable suffering. And it should never be accepted as “the way things are.”

Roaches, rats, cold in winter, hot in summer. No heat no a/c! At the foot of the dump. They need to find a humane building to house these animals. They need new management that believes they can do better. They need media participation to get the word out to the public of all these amazing dogs and cats that need saved. They need a second chance . Steps have to be done with county commissioners to get affordable spay and neuters. TNR needs to be an accepted means to help with cat population. Polk County Animal Control kills more animals than any other shelters in the state of Florida. While other counties are converting to no-kill shelters, Polk County yearly increases the number of pets killed!!
We must do better in Polk!!
I have not much money but I have plenty of time to help in anyway I can . This senseless killing of innocent animals is “animal abuse” and makes me sick to my stomach!
I love all animals but my heart goes out to the Cat’s. I think that something needs to be done about the cruelty and hateful way of killing these poor little animals! I vote for no kill!
God doesn’t like ugly remember that!
