Florida Polytechnic University has taken a major step toward stabilizing its police department.
The university has hired Aaron Murray as executive director of university safety and chief of police. Though not from Polk County, Murray has a connection to Florida Poly President Devin Stephenson.
Murray has served in the same role since 2018 at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, the school that Stephenson led before being appointed as president of Florida Poly in 2024. Murray also worked as an adjunct instructor at Northwest Florida, handling courses on such topics as leadership, middle management, and line supervision, according to his resume.
