The City of Lakeland Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department will be performing a safety trim of the Lovers’ Oak on Thursday and Friday, January 15-16, 2026, in the 700 block of Success Avenue.
The scheduled work includes the removal of large tree limbs extending over a nearby residence to reduce potential safety concerns. To maintain proper balance and structural integrity of the tree, additional limbs over the roadway will also be removed. These limbs show evidence of repeated contact with large vehicles, as indicated by scarring beneath the branches.
The Lovers Oak is currently in good condition with minimal decay that does not impact the overall health or structural integrity of the tree. This work is being completed as a preventative safety measure to reduce risk and support the tree’s long-term preservation.
Temporary impacts to traffic or nearby areas may occur during the trimming process. Motorists and residents are advised to use caution in the area while work is underway.
