A 35-year-old Tampa man was stopped for traveling 61 MPH in a posted 45 MPH zone in Lakeland. Initially, the driver stopped, then as the Trooper exited his vehicle, the driver fled, reaching speeds in excess of 100 MPH and eventually wrecking into six vehicles at the intersection of CR-540A and Carter Road in Lakeland.
With the assistance of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was taken into custody, admitting he was going back to jail for a long time because there were drugs in the car. Found in the vehicle was Cocaine: 52.6 grams (trafficking amount), Cannabis: 135.2 grams, and Fentanyl: 20.2 grams (trafficking amount).
