Every year, thousands of healthy and loving cats and kittens are killed in shelters. This happens not because they are sick or aggressive, but simply because there is no room. When it comes to shelter deaths, cats are the most affected. IT IS 100% UNNECESSARY. This is a national tragedy we must stop.
The Solution: TNR + Policy Reform = A No Kill Nation
TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) stops the breeding cycle in a humane way. It reduces shelter intakes and saves taxpayer money, while allowing healthy community cats to live safely.
Progressive shelter policies, such as supporting community cat programs, ending mandatory intake of feral or stray cats, and prioritizing adoption and foster networks, save thousands of lives.
Public involvement is crucial. Every spay, every foster, and every voice raised gets us closer to a truly humane system.
Killing is not population control; it is a failure.
Compassion is the cure, and it starts with YOU.

POLICY CHANGES WE NEED NOW TO SAVE CATS:
Mandatory TNR programs in every community
Ban on killing healthy or treatable cats in shelters
Funding for free or low-cost spay-neuter services
Legal protections for community cat caregivers
Education programs about the benefits of TNR
Together we can build a no kill nation; and make life safer, kinder, and fairer for all cats.
The volunteers who do trap neuter, vaccinate return and colony cat caretaking cannot do it alone, using their own money and physical and mental resources.
Local large, well funded nonprofits who are focusing on adoption and transporting should start focusing more. I’m providing free or very low-cost Spay Neuter in the community and not rely on the government contracts unless they absolutely have no reserve money to dedicate towards Spay Neuter many of these organizations have been around for decades, and they have dedicated donors who could be convinced that funding Spay Neuter is the most effective and long-term fiscally responsible solution to the cat over population situation on our streets and in our shelters
Local governments who are not funding these types of programs should also start funding them in the state of Florida should set up some source of dedicated funding so that more less well funded organizations can get grants, including private veterinarians, who are willing to for an established price that is fair to provide the services in areas where there are no large clinics available at shelters.
Elected leader should encourage Housing providers to not make it so restrictive for people to own not even one pet much less two or three. If the owners sign a responsible pet owner contract and the animals are sterilized there’s no reason why someone who keeps a cat inside should be restricted to one cat, and some of the housing providers are requiring very high deposits and even monthly fees just to have a pet.
We are all paying for pet over population with our tax money and the animals are paying with their lives.
