Florida Senate President Ben Albritton was hospitalized early Sunday after experiencing chest pain, with doctors discovering a small blood clot in his lung, his office announced in a statement to senators.
Albritton, who has led the Senate since November 2024, sought treatment at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital’s emergency room. He remained there overnight for observation and is awaiting further testing, according to the update from his office.
“The president is in good spirits and has been in frequent communication with staff via phone and email yesterday and today,” the statement said. Senate business scheduled for the week will proceed as planned.
The 57-year-old Senate president oversees a chamber with a strong Republican majority as lawmakers prepare for upcoming sessions. No additional details about his condition were released.
