Southwest Florida Water Management District declared a “severe” water shortage on Tuesday.
The governing board voted in favor of a modified phase II “severe” water shortage due to dry conditions throughout the region.
All residents, including private wells, are restricted to one-day-per-week watering restrictions.
The restrictions apply to the following counties and areas:
- Citrus County
- DeSoto County
- Hardee County
- Hernando County
- Hillsborough County
- Manatee County
- Pasco County
- Pinellas County
- Polk County
- Sarasota County
- Sumter County
- Portions of Charlotte, Highlands and Lake counties
- City of Dunellon and The Villages in Marion County
- Portion of Gasparilla Island in Lee County from Feb. 8 through July 1.
The district received below-average rainfall during its summer rainy season and currently has a 13-inch regional rainfall deficit compared to the average 12-month total, officials said.
