Florida health officials have detected glyphosate, a widely used herbicide, in several nationally distributed bread brands sold throughout the state, according to an announcement made by state leaders.
Independent testing conducted by state authorities identified the chemical in multiple popular bread products, including Nature’s Own, Dave’s Killer Bread, Wonder Bread, and Sara Lee Honey Wheat. The discovery comes as part of a broader state initiative aimed at providing consumers with greater transparency regarding food ingredients and potential contaminants.
State officials characterized the findings as “pretty concerning,” though they noted that not all bread brands tested positive for glyphosate. The herbicide, commonly used in agricultural production to control weeds, has been the subject of ongoing debate regarding its safety and presence in consumer food products.
Florida authorities indicated that additional testing is planned to continue monitoring bread products and other food items as part of their expanded food safety and transparency efforts. The Department of Health and the state’s testing program represent a push to inform families about potential chemical residues in everyday food products.
“We will continue working to arm Floridians with the information they need to make the best choices for their families’ well-being,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a Feb. 5 news release. “DOH tested eight bread products across five national brands commonly available in Florida grocery stores.
“Glyphosate, a widely used herbicide commonly applied in agricultural production to control weeds, was detected in six of the eight bread products tested.”
No specific health advisories or product recalls were announced at this time, and officials did not provide details on the concentration levels of glyphosate detected in the tested bread samples.
Speaking with a local resident on her way to Publix for her weekly grocery shopping on Friday afternoon, she shared her concerns about food safety.
“I try to constantly read ingredients in the products that I buy at the supermarket these days, but I don’t even think that’s enough to protect our health because there are substances in the food that we are consuming that will only show up through testing.”
Despite her concerns, she admits she has no choice but to continue purchasing the foods she likes, though she plans to remain cautious.

We have created a dilemma.
Smaller Farmers are being driven out of business by Big Ag. Land that was once cultivated and farmed is being sold for development or for wind and solar farms. Fewer and fewer acres of grains are planted each year. People demand “low” food prices. The only way to accomplish this is increase the yield per acre of grain and cereal crops. GMO seeds allow planted and growing fields to be sprayed with glyphosate without harming the cash crop. This weed control allows the fields to yield extremely high number of bushels per acre. It also dramatically reduces the need to use large quantities of chemical fertilizers….nitrogen, phosphate, potash, ammonium nitrate, etc….all of which harm waterways with run off. It also makes possible “no till” planting, which is cost effective and good for the environment.
If the use of Glyphosate and similar herbicides are prohibited, the grain and cereal yields will plummet and there will be shortfalls and higher prices.
We are going to have to decide what, in an imperfect world, we are going to have to live with. The BEST solution is to help family farmers keep their lands and stay in business…..this would put millions of more acres into production and reduce the need to use GMO seeds and herbicides like Glyphosate. But Big AG has a powerful lobby and the farmers do not.
These developers taking land to build track homes. To rent to whoever. Is not right. These communities are meant to be for first time buyers. Built upon sale not throw up cluster for black rock to buy and rent. Disgrace.
