Avelo Airlines announces 2 new seasonal routes from Lakeland International Airport

Just in time for MLB Spring Training, Avelo Airlines has announced two new seasonal routes out of Lakeland International Airport.

Starting Wednesday, passengers can enjoy nonstop flights to Detroit, Michigan, and to Atlanta, Georgia, beginning Thursday.

Twice-weekly services are offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The new flights come after the airport says it received strong community feedback and “reflect a shared commitment to serving Central Florida travelers.”

It also comes as the Detroit Tigers begin Spring Training at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, where the team has hosted their spring games since 1966.

Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy gave the following statement

“We are excited to bring Atlanta back to Lakeland’s lineup of destinations — this time with more flexibility, more frequency, and even greater opportunity for travelers on both ends of the route. We’re also eager for the start of nonstop service to Detroit, combining baseball’s spring training season and a vacation to Lakeland for Motor City travelers, as well as a way to connect with friends and family for Polk County travelers. Our partnership with the City of Lakeland and Lakeland International Airport continues to strengthen, and we are proud to listen, respond, and grow together.”

Lakeland International is about nine miles from Joker Marchant Stadium. Pitchers and catchers report Wednesday, with their first spring training home game on Sunday, Feb. 22, against the Baltimore Orioles.
