A retired deputy from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office went to the podium and said what many residents have been saying for months… but this time, it came from someone who wore the badge. 
He called out the Polk County Commissioners for limiting public comment and said plainly:
“𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴.” 
He also challenged Commissioner Braswell’s June 3, 2025 claim that the BOCC has “no control” over the Sheriff’s budget — citing 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝟭𝟮𝟵.𝟬𝟯 and BOCC budget authority. 
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗺𝗯𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹. 
He stated:
“When I worked at the Sheriff’s Office, I was a canine (K-9).” 
“𝗪𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 (𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹) 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗱.”
“𝗪𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻.”
This isn’t “advocates being dramatic.”
This is a 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘆 saying law enforcement wouldn’t even trust Animal Control’s vet with their working K-9s. 
And Polk County officials want the public to stay quiet? 
I hope people will commend Mr. Butler, retired PCSO, for exposing the truth that these commissioners, and Grady Judd, want to keep suppressed.
Thank you Mr Butler for your bravery. So the K9s of the Sheriff’s office won’t even use the animal control vet! Yet the unfortunate animals who end up in that horrid facility have no choice but inferior care. Pretty telling.
