A 42-year-old man was killed and his passenger seriously injured after their Hyundai slammed into a semi on Thursday on US-27 in Belle Glade.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, a Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on US-27 in the outside lane, driving behind a semi.
Deputies say for unknown reasons the driver of the Hyundai, 42-year-old Julius Brown Jr. of Lakeland, didn’t realize he was traveling in the same lane as the semi, and struck the tractor-trailer from behind.
The Hyundai rotated clockwise before coming to rest in the left shoulder of the roadway.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. His passenger was transported to Delray Medical Center with serious injuries.
The driver of the semi had no injuries, according to the crash report.
