Sergeant Mumbauer has proudly served with the Lakeland Police Department since 1995. Over 31 years, he has worked Patrol, Special Investigations, Neighborhood Liaison, K-9, and SWAT, and has led as SWAT Commander since 2013. Along the way, he has earned more than 60 awards, including the Chief’s Award and a Life Saving Medal. We are beyond proud of his service, and the countless lives he has impacted throughout our community.
In his speech, he reminded students that he’s not special, just determined. Determined to get up every day and make a difference. To be placed in a position to help, protect, or inspire someone. His commitment to small, consistent acts of kindness has shaped his life and career.
From honoring his wife and his family for their support, to encouraging students to stay consistent through life’s setbacks, his message was clear: your presence, your kindness, and your effort matter more than you know. Lakeland has grown; opportunities have grown and so have the possibilities for the next generation. The future is yours. Make it count.
Lake Gibson High has a proud tradition in Lakeland, and adding someone with a background of service and leadership like Sgt. Mumbauer really highlights the “Braves” spirit. It’s always heartening to see local heroes get their flowers while they can still smell them.
