According to the Lakeland Fire Department (LFD), the fire broke out at approximately 9:45 p.m. at a residence on Pine Ridge Drive, located off U.S. 98.

- The Victim: Firefighters discovered one adult victim—identified as a man in his 70s—deceased in the carport area of the home.
- The Response: When crews arrived, they found heavy fire involvement, specifically around the carport. Initial reports suggested two people might be trapped, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation.
- Survivors: A second occupant of the home was able to evacuate safely before firefighters arrived and was accounted for during a secondary search of the structure.
