Currently, US 98 near the Polk/Pasco County line is experiencing disruptions. While there were major road depression issues on I-4 in Polk County late last month, the most current US 98 situation involves the following:
- The Issue: Crews are investigating and addressing a road depression (and performing critical drainage work) that has led to lane closures.
- The Closure: A full closure is scheduled for this coming weekend (Friday, March 13 at 8 p.m. through Monday, March 16 at 6 a.m.) on US 98 between CR 54 (the county line) and Old Lakeland Highway.
- Impact: In the meantime, you can expect periodic lane closures and flagging operations during the day (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) as crews prep for the major repair.
- Detour: Thru traffic is being rerouted via CR 54 and Old Lakeland Highway, which adds about 8 miles to the trip.
If you’re heading toward Dade City or north Lakeland, it’s definitely worth checking a live map before you head out, as these “investigations” often turn into longer-term repairs if they find a void under the pavement.
