Maj. Cody A. Khork, a 35-year-old U.S. Army Reserve officer from Polk County, is being laid to rest with full military honors today, Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
Maj. Khork was one of six service members killed on March 1 during an unmanned aircraft system (drone) attack at the Port of Shuaiba in Kuwait. He was serving as part of Operation Epic Fury at the time of the strike.+1

- Posthumous Promotion: Formerly a Captain, he was posthumously promoted to the rank of Major on March 13.

- Local Tributes: A major law enforcement and community motorcade escorted his remains from Lakeland Linder International Airport to Winter Haven last week, passing through the campus of his alma mater, Florida Southern College.
Legacy in the Community
Maj. Khork was a 2014 graduate of Florida Southern College, where he was heavily involved in the ROTC program. To honor his memory, his family and the college have established the Major Cody A. Khork Endowed ROTC Scholarship, which will support junior or senior cadets by covering costs such as room and board
