A person was found dead on a bench at Veterans Memorial Park in Lakeland the morning of May 19.
Lakeland police confirmed a death investigation is underway. Detectives were on scene, but police said there did not appear to be indications of foul play.
When the Lakeland Police Department (LPD) releases updates regarding the identity of the person or any findings from the medical examiner’s autopsy report, that information will clarify the circumstances. In similar local unattended death investigations where detectives rule out foul play on-scene, the cause often points to natural causes or medical emergencies, though the official determination rests with the District 10 Medical Examiner’s Office.
The investigation is centered at the park located on East Lime Street, just south of the RP Funding Center. Updates are expected as LPD processing concludes.
