The City of Lakeland issued a request for proposals (RFP-2026-051) to design and construct entrance modifications for a Parking Access and Revenue Control System (PARCS) specifically inside the Economy Parking Lot at Lakeland Linder International Airport.
The bidding process just wrapped up its final question phases, with final proposals due on June 22, 2026.
The project is designed to handle controlled access to the lot while keeping operations running smoothly. Here is a breakdown of exactly what infrastructure is being put in:
- Entry & Exit Infrastructure: Reconfiguring the existing entrance and exit layout into one designated entry lane and one designated exit lane, complete with concrete pads and foundations to support the electronic kiosks and gates.
- Driver Comfort: Installing overhead canopy structures over both the entry and exit lanes to protect drivers and equipment from the Florida weather.
- Tech Upgrades: Laying down new power services, conduit, wiring, and high-speed communication infrastructure (fiber and ethernet) to connect the kiosks.
- Site Enhancements: Upgrading the local pavement, adding new traffic control striping and signage, vehicle detection sensors, fencing modifications, and parking stops.
This move follows the airport’s initial transition to paid parking, which brought in upgraded digital kiosks to the premium general lots to help fund infrastructure and support growing airline traffic.
