A Davenport woman was arrested and charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty and neglect

The Davenport woman arrested and charged with animal cruelty is 33-year-old Caroline Kanyamauri.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office added these charges following an investigation that unfolded after an initial traffic stop.

How the Incident Unfolded

  • The Initial Arrest: Kanyamauri was originally pulled over and arrested by the Davenport Police Department for five traffic-related misdemeanors.
  • The Sister’s Discovery: While being taken into custody, Kanyamauri asked officers if she could call her sister to check on her dogs while she was in jail. When the sister arrived at the home the following day, she discovered horrific conditions and immediately alerted law enforcement.
  • What Deputies Found:
    • The decomposing remains of a deceased dog inside a black wire kennel in the backyard.
    • Four live puppies confined to a porch covered in animal feces.
    • An adult male dog inside the house that was severely malnourished, with its ribs and bone structure clearly visible.

All five surviving animals were found to be malnourished and infested with parasites. They were rescued and taken to Polk County Animal Control for medical evaluation and rehabilitation.

The Charges

Kanyamauri, who remains held in the Polk County Jail, faces the following additional charges:

  • 5 counts of felony animal cruelty
  • 5 counts of animal neglect
  • 1 count of unlawful disposal of a dead animal
