In honor of America 250 and Polk County’s 165th anniversary, Polk County staff and the Polk County Cattlemen’s Association hosted a special cattle drive and Cow Camp rededication, paying tribute to the cattlemen and women who shaped this region’s land and legacy.
More than 200 guests gathered to watch the herd move along Windmill Whisper and Discovery Drive before the rededication ceremony began. Speakers included Polk County Parks and Natural Resources Director Tabitha Biehl and Environmental Lands Stewardship Coordinator Eric Eversole, along with Polk County Cattlemen’s Association President Ken Sherrouse, who reflected on the deep roots of ranching in Polk County.
Historic Preservation Manager Myrtice Young joined longtime cattleman Fred Waters to share the history of Cow Camp, followed by a rebranding ceremony led by Livestock Extension Agent Bridget Stice of the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension.
The celebration continued with a live panel podcast hosted by “Florida Uncut” host Mason Gravley and cattle-themed Nature Fun Day activities for all ages to enjoy.
