What Happened
- Pressed Books & Coffee: Before the scheduled stop, the Fishback campaign publicized an event at Pressed. The shop posted on social media clarifying that the event was never approved and would not be taking place. Owner Kaylin Fowler stated that Pressed maintains a strict policy against hosting events aimed at promoting specific political campaigns or parties.
- Black & Brew: Following the cancellation at Pressed, the campaign updated its event location to Black & Brew on short notice. Owner Chris McArthur stated that a campaign coordinator had reached out earlier that morning asking for permission to host a “meeting,” without disclosing that it would involve a large gathering of political supporters or speeches. Black & Brew attempted to notify organizers that the event was unapproved and posted warnings on social media, emphasizing that while they welcome open dialogue, they do not host political rallies.
The Gathering & Pivot to Munn Park
Despite the lack of authorization and rain in the area, around 100 supporters showed up near Black & Brew. Management allowed Fishback inside to avoid forcing people into a thunderstorm, but strictly prohibited filming, photos, or campaign speeches inside the café.
As the crowd continued to grow on the patio, staff asked the group to move away from the entrance. The campaign then crossed the street to Munn Park, where Fishback held an impromptu rally, gave a speech, and met with supporters.
Campaign Context: Unannounced or guerrilla-style pop-ups have become a signature tactic for Fishback’s campaign across Florida—including a previous “Waffle House Tour” that was altered after corporate policy prohibited political activities at their locations.
