How many of you live outside the City of Lakeland but receive your electric service from Lakeland Electric?
Lakeland Electric recently approved a 15.5% base rate increase over the next four years, and the utility is budgeted to transfer more than $35 million each year to the City of Lakeland’s General Fund.
If you live in unincorporated Polk County, you can’t vote for the Lakeland City Commission, yet you’re still paying electric rates set by that Commission.
We are trying to find out how many people are in this situation. If you live outside the city limits but have Lakeland Electric, please comment below with your general area (for example: Highland City, Medulla, Christina, South Lakeland, etc.).
We are gathering information to better understand how many customers outside the city may be affected and whether there should be more representation or a different approach for customers who don’t live within the city limits.
Please share this post with anyone you know who has Lakeland Electric but lives outside the City of Lakeland.

I vote NO! We live in North Lakeland. Our electric bill for June was $350.00! We have never gotten that high a bill in June! And, it’s increasing 4 more times? NO!
I vote no I live in Lakeland
Ewell road directly adjacent to riverstone subdivision. Their 2 story homes look into my back yard. The city has deemed that city limits while we are not. It is odd that I am surrounded by city limits on 3 sides but this neighborhood has not been adopted. I recently saw a friends electric bill and we compared. All I can say is that I am thankful that I am not in the city limits. I do not pay to flush my toilet or wash my car and I dont pay stormwater fees. Trash falls onto property taxes and I have a well. Right after reading this article my electric bill came via email. It went up from $118.00 last month to $181.00 this month.
