Lakeland DUI Suspect Arrested After Fleeing Into Swamp With Kids

A man was arrested by the Lakeland Police Department after allegedly driving under the influence and crashing his vehicle before fleeing into a swampy area with two young children.

A drone operator spotted 27-year-old Isaac Kinsey in a wooded, swampy area south of the crash site. Kinsey was carrying a 2-year-old child and a 10-month-old infant in total darkness

Key Details of the Incident:

  • The Crash: The single-vehicle crash—presumed to be a rollover—occurred on Highway 33 in Lakeland.
  • The Flight: Following the crash, the driver carried and fled into a nearby heavily wooded, swampy marsh with two young children.
  • Law Enforcement Response: Authorities located and detained the man in the marsh area.
  • Charges: He faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence (DUI) and potential counts related to child neglect/endangerment. Both children were evaluated by first responders following the incident.

Lakeland Police Chief Sammy Taylor said he was outraged by the man’s lack of care not only for others on the road, but also for his own children, and he’s glad the kids didn’t drown.

“It was just like a doll he was throwing around, and several times [they] went underneath the water,” said Taylor. “I’m a father and grandfather, and it just makes your blood boil.”
